Family friendly ryokan in Kyoto Sakura Urushitei

If you are looking for a place to spend some cozy time in Kyoto consider taking a look at Urushitei. When searching for a family-friendly ryokan in Kyoto many concerns pop up in traveler’s heads. Is it close to the center? Will we have privacy? How will my children like it? What about the meal options? Will we have time to try new things? To help you answer these questions, we have collected a bunch of ideas for your perfect ryokan experience. If you need more info do not hesitate to check the FAQ page of Urushitei or contact us with any questions on Facebook or via Email.

A MEAL FOR EVERYONE

The Hotel does not just  provide various type of breakfast options (vegetarian, western-style, Japanese-style) but also a Children menu for the little ones. More than that, you can request a children-feeding chair for the smallest ones

Do you wish to just start the day with a couple of fruits, a  hot coffee with some sweet bakeries or a piece of cheese with bread? No worries, our meal options cover any taste. Enjoy your choice of meal with your loved one in your traditional Yukata rope.

Additionally, after a long day of discovery you may not want to stay out for dinner. If the children are sleepy or already asleep you can order your dinner directly to the Hotel. We recommend you a traditional Japanese Bento Box, that is a safe choice to discover the traditional tastes of Kyoto. Sounds yummy right?

TRY TRADITIONAL JAPANESE CULTURE TOGETHER

If you want to start experiencing Japanese culture already from your Hotel, Urushitei is a great choice for you. Among many other activities, you have the chance to try tea ceremony with your loved ones. Get a taste of Sencha, feel Japanese Zen Buddhism in action and experience wagashi (traditional Japanese confections) served with your delicious tea.

Upon arrival you can dress into your yukata (a casual type of kimono) that you can wear in your room or in the common areas of the Hotel. If you wish, we can also arrange your Kimono rental, that you can discover the ancient city of Kyoto dressed in the national dress of Japan.

However, doing something special together, does not stop with tea and kimono. We often organize activities where you can take a deeper look into one of many traditional arts of Japan. Learn something new while being creative together with your family. We offer calligraphy (traditional Japanese handwriting) , Ikebana (flower arrangement), Japanese Sake tasting and Japanese pottery activities to our guests. Which is your favourite Japanese Art? It’s time to start practicing.

FEEL RELAXED ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN

Our ryokan is designed in a way, that it is completely safe for children. Among many details, behind the traditional shoji (sliding door) windows, there are security bars installed, not to mention the safe equipment of the rooms.

Do you have small children? Even if you choose a western-style room, you can request an additional mattress, that can be placed comfortably on the tatami floor. It provides a safe place to sleep for your toddlers.

More than that, we are ready 24/7 at the reception for your needs, in case you need our assistance.  In the event someone gets sick, we can call for medicine or immediate help.

MAKE YOURSELF COMFORTABLE

The Hotel is in a calm and silent part of Kyoto, that provides a relaxed sleep and evening with your family.

You also have the opportunity to book a refreshing private bath in our Hotel, that you can use with your family or your wife/husband. Make sure to book the bath in advance at our reception, that we can prepare everything for you according to you needs.

For a small extra charge, we can provide you with extra futons (comfy Japanese style mattresses), that you can fully enjoy playing and relaxing with your children. Enjoy setting up a futon together! According to our guests, it is great fun to figure it out yourself, and arrange your napping spot in private with your family.

Japanese futons can be very comfortable and cozy while providing a good night’s rest. Even if you do not choose to use Japanese bedding every night during your visit, a trip to Japan is incomplete without at least sampling the traditional Japanese way of sleeping.

GET FAMILY-FRIENDLY RECOMMENDATIONS IN KYOTO

Kyoto can get crowded in popular seasons, and we assume you don’t want to have overwhelmed kids and a family dispute in the middle of the crowd. Let us help you avoiding the crowds. There are so many off-the beaten track places and hidden gems in this town.

Our Hotel provides free concierge service to all guests. Feel free to ask our staff and we will provide you with personal recommendations depending on your preferences. Our concierge can also help you with your bookings, be it restaurants, museums, bars, sites, shops or anything else you need. Making reservations can be tricky sometimes, without speaking Japanese.

We are happy to assist you with your Hotel booking too. Especially in an other cozy and affordable ryokan, our sister affiliate the Sakura Hongan-G.

EASY TO APPROACH & CLOSE TO ATTRACTIONS

If you access the Hotel by train take the Karasuma subway line from Kyoto station, and get off at Shijo station. It is a 7-minute walk from Exit #5, outside the south ticket gate.

If you use the bus from Kyoto station, go to the Central Exit (Karasuma Exit) bus terminal, take the city bus #5 or #26. Get off on Karasuma Matsubara, and walk for 10 minutes to the Hotel.

Nevertheless, we recommend you to simply take the taxi from Kyoto station as it is the most convenient method. After all, the fair is rather cheap in Kyoto.

The Hotel is only a 8-minute walk away from Nishiki market which is a great start to delve into discovering the vibes of Kyoto. The Kamo river is also only a 6-minute walk away. It runs through the city and provides an excellent surrounding for a cozy walk with your loved ones.
